Ever since Abby was young, she always knew she wanted to be an artist. Her mother introduced her to fiber arts at a young age, and Abby grew up with a strong drive to work with her hands creating pretty textured things.
As Abby became an adult, her grandmother had started gifting her some of her most precious objects. An antique cameo, her beautiful tea cups – Abby started growing a deeper affection for antiques and heirlooms.
It was when she was given handcrafted ornaments by her grandmother – with their lush colors and intricate designs – that she was captivated by the art of creating things by hand.
Abby got on a plane to London to learn hand embroidery at the Royal School of Needlework. Set in the beautiful historic grounds of Hampton Court Palace, she learned from some of the best hand embroiderers in the world. The surroundings would eventually be a significant influence in her designs.
Abby went on to pursue formal training in illustration. Soon after, she painted her first needlepoint canvas. She discovered that designing needlepoint was the perfect combination of her two greatest creative loves, needlework and illustration.
Much of Abby’s designs are rooted in the history of folk art and Jacobean crewelwork. Moreover, she draws inspiration from both the historic and the modern, creating designs that are truly beautiful and timeless.
Through her creative journey, Abby realized that needlepoint had become inaccessible. She loved to create pretty things, but she wanted to share that experience with others. Abigail Cecile became her mission to do just that – to reimagine the needlepoint experience to make it more accessible, and be a welcoming space to support your project from beginning to end.
In 2018, Abigail Cecile was born as a destination to inspire and empower you throughout your needlepoint journey.
