I Painted a Canvas...

I've been dreaming about it ever since walking into a small needlepoint store several years ago with painted canvases covering the walls and table tops. I was talking with my Aunt a month ago about needlepoint. She's stitched for years but wanted a more relaxing project, a project without the need to choose a million stitches and compensation. I suggested canvas shading! I've never personally stitched this technique but I know the theory… It's still needlepoint but it completely cuts out those two factors. The canvas count is a lower number and the project uses wool, making this design stitch up much faster. All that to say; our conversation is what finally got me to 'get a move on'. I put a small thumbnail of my design into Adobe Illustrator and played with colors for the day. I printed the design, placed my canvas over the top, masked the edges of the stitching area, and painted! I mixed a fabric medium with the acrylic. It helped the canvas take the paint, and it helped me to spread the paint about more easily. I still have to heat set the canvas, and there are a few color tweaks to be made on my next canvas. But I'll have at least one listed in my shop as soon as possible!
Let me know what you guys think. Is this something you'd like to see more of? Maybe even a DIY on how to paint your own? I so enjoyed painting this canvas and am eager to do a few more!
