This year marks our second annual Applefest. "Applefest" is the weekend that my extended family comes in force to harvest our apple trees. We create applesauce, hard cider, apple cider, apple pies, and dried apples. The guys make the cider, and are pretty hard core about it. You may notice one photo where a few die hards are still making cider in the dark. Forget about dinner, they were determined to make their quota. The ladies peel apples and watch pots of applesauce simmer on the stove. Which usually ends up a little burnt despite the watching. We chat and laugh and all around enjoy each other.
And of course, we eat delicious food. Grandma spent the week leading up to Applefest cooking all sorts of things…stew, chili, spaghetti sauce (in a pot that is nearly taller than she is. She is so cute).
Despite the rain and cold temperatures, we all have a nice stock of various apple products in our freezers or fermenting in our basements. Moonshine anyone?
I whipped up this little embroidered apple over the weekend. It felt good to take a break and stitch a little. It's a super fast project. But cute. I'm still not sure what I'll do with mine, any ideas? You can download the pattern here.
